Topsoe

Founded in 1940, Topsoe is a leading global developer and supplier of decarbonization technology, catalysts, and services for the energy transition. The company’s mission is to combat climate change by helping its partners and customers achieve their decarbonization and emission-reduction targets, including those in hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, shipping, and the production of raw materials. From carbon reduction chemicals, to renewable fuels and plastic upcycling, Topsoe is uniquely positioned to aid humanity in realizing a sustainable future.

Especially for renewable hydrogen, renewable ammonia and eMethanol, Topsoe takes the lead in developing scalable solutions. The company is currently building one of the world’s first industrial-scale SOEC electrolyzer manufacturing facilities in Denmark. Operational in 2025, the factory will have a 500 MW manufacturing capacity with the potential to scale further. Topsoe’s SOEC technology is up to 35% more efficient than today’s conventional technologies, and American-based company First Ammonia will take advantage of its unique qualities to produce renewable ammonia in both the US and Europe. First Ammonia will offtake up to 5GW of electrolyzer capacity from Topsoe, making the agreement the world’s largest electrolyzer reservation.

Topsoe is also passionate about becoming a fully sustainable company itself and is part of a select group of companies that have obtained Science Based Targets initiative’s approval of its 2040 net-zero targets.
