Costa Introduces Legislation to Recognize October 8th as National Hydrogen Fuel Cell Day

(FRESNO) – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after introduction of a resolution designating October 8th as National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day and to highlight the pivotal role this technology could play in combatting the climate crisis:  

"Hydrogen and Fuel Cell technology must be a part of our plan to get to zero emissions," Costa said. "I am proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution for the 2nd year to call attention to this important issue. We must continue to focus on a multi-step approach to addressing climate change by investing in new and innovative technologies like these that can transform our roads and buildings. In the 21st century, we must use all the energy tools in our energy toolbox to be successful." 

Last year, Congressman Costa introduced H.Res.615 - Expressing support for the designation of October 8, 2019, as “National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day”. California has been a long-standing leader in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in the United States and around the world, deploying zero-emission fuel cell vehicles and the developing essential hydrogen infrastructure.   

Nearly 8,500 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are already on the road in California, with 42 public hydrogen stations available. In addition to powering cars, these fuel cell systems can supply over 550 megawatts of clean energy to power buildings, ranging from small businesses to schools.
