On the ninth annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, U.S. Representatives Jim Costa (CA-21), John Larson (CT-01), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), David Valadao (CA-22), and Paul Tonko (NY-20) introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution designating October 8, 2022, as "National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day".

National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is observed on October 8, in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen - 1.008.  Hydrogen is already providing fuel, feedstock, and power to wide-ranging sectors of the United States. This important day recognizes the growth of the industry by raising awareness of the benefits hydrogen energy and fuel cell technologies provide in reducing emissions while driving economic growth.

“Hydrogen and fuel cell technology are key to tackling the climate crisis,” said Congressman Costa. “This technology can create good-paying jobs while decarbonizing the transportation and manufacturing industries, setting us on the path to cut emissions in half by 2035. I am proud to lead this bipartisan, bicameral resolution to raise awareness of this innovative technology that could strengthen our energy security in the 21st century."

“As a hub for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, my home state of Connecticut is our nation’s Fuel Cell Capital,” said Congressman Larson. “Last year, I led efforts in Congress to enact tax credits to spur clean hydrogen production and invest millions in cutting-edge research to make hydrogen deployment safer and more affordable. On National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, we recognize the potential of fuel cells to help unleash America’s clean energy future and remain committed to growing this emerging industry.”

“Our nation’s clean energy future is contingent on fuel cell and hydrogen technology and innovation,” said Congressman Fitzpatrick. “Our bipartisan, bicameral resolution recognizes National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day to serve as a reminder that we must look toward clean energy alternatives, and I am proud to join my colleagues.”

“The only way to reduce energy prices for Valley families and ensure American energy independence is to embrace an all-of-the-above approach to domestic production,” said Congressman Valadao. “Hydrogen and Fuel Cell technology offers an innovative, sustainable, and renewable approach that can help power our communities. I’m proud to join my colleagues to introduce this bipartisan, bicameral resolution on National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day.”

“In Delaware and across our nation, innovators are building the future of our nation’s economy, strengthening our energy security, and helping us meet our climate goals with the development and deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies,” said Senator Coons. “I am proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution to salute our leadership in clean energy solutions and show our support for Delaware’s workers developing clean and reliable hydrogen and fuel cell applications.”

“Hydrogen and fuel cell technology have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while creating good jobs and helping us become more energy independent. I’m proud that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included funding to invest in these types of technology, and I’ll continue to push for more of those investments so we have a fighting chance against the devastating impacts of climate change,” said Senator Murphy.

U.S. Representatives Jim Costa (CA-21), John Larson (CT-01), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), David Valadao (CA-22), and Paul Tonko (NY-20) led the introduction of the House Resolution with Representatives Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Suzan DelBene (WA-01), Andre Carson (IN-07), Michael Lawler (NY-17), and Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) joining as co-sponsors.

U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Chris Coons (D-DE) led the introduction of the Senate resolution.
